Tickets fly out the door for 2021 Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery
KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: Spokesman Bryce Herman confirms the lottery has sold out as of 1:45 p.m.
The prize draw will be held on June 30.
EARLIER: The 2021 Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery is about to sell out.
Spokesman Bryce Herman spoke to CFJC Today at about 11:00 a.m. Thursday (May 6). At the time, Herman said there were only a few hundred tickets left for the dream home itself and about $15,000 worth of tickets for the 50/50 draw.
Organizers had to cap the number of 50/50 tickets they made available to comply with provincial gaming regulations.
Herman says once again this year, the speed of ticket sales will set a record for this lottery.
“The fastest we’ve ever sold the lottery out in the past is ten days, so this is a record,” Herman told CFJC Today. “It’s our 25th, silver anniversary — you couldn’t ask for a better anniversary gift than this. It’s unbelievable how the community has come out and rallied to support the cause.”
Herman says officials with the Kamloops YM-YWCA are moved by the community’s support.
“Overwhelming. From a human side, it’s just emotionally, unbelievably crazy to find that it would move that quickly,” he said. “To think that we launched Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. and here we are Thursday – so not even two-and-a-half days.”
Demand was so strong that it crashed the sales website upon launch Tuesday morning.
Herman says a number of factors play into the community’s growing support.
“I never believe that it’s a single focus that makes something trip over the edge. Certainly, 25 years of momentum with a product that people obviously have embraced is a part of it. The fact that we have a pandemic and people are working from home and everything is an online world — I think we’ve all adjusted.”
