One dead in Shuswap head-on collision: RCMP
TAPPEN, B.C. — RCMP have confirmed one person died in a crash on the Trans Canada Highway near Tappen Wednesday (March 5).
In a news release, Southeast District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy says crews were called to the 4100-block of the Trans Canada Highway — about two kilometres west of Tappen — at about 10:47 a.m.
Investigators believe an eastbound minivan crossed the centre line and entered the westbound lanes, striking a semi-truck head-on. Grandy says it’s not known what caused the van to drift over the line.
The male driving the minivan died at the scene. The driver of the commercial truck sustained minor injuries.
The highway has been closed for most of the day Wednesday as police and the BC Coroners Service probe the scene.
Anyone who may have information about the crash or what led up to it is asked to contact Salmon Arm RCMP at (250) 832-6044.
