Suspected impaired driver flees after leaving car door embedded in Kamloops RCMP cruiser
KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops Mountie was hurt after a hit-and-run crash last weekend.
In a news release, Cst. Crystal Evelyn says the incident happened Friday evening (Feb. 19) as the RCMP member was driving on the East Trans Canada Highway near Grand Boulevard in Valleyview.
The member activated the cruiser’s lights and sirens and tried to make an emergency U-turn when the vehicle was hit by an eastbound vehicle. Evelyn says the Mountie received minor injuries.
The vehicle drove away from the scene of the crash, despite its driver’s side door remaining embedded in the cruiser’s front right bumper.
Investigating officers tracked down the woman and arrested her. She was also suffering from minor injuries.
Evelyn says the woman was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition related to impaired driving and ticketed for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to yield or stop for an emergency vehicle.
