The Real McCoy Open! 2026
The event is to raise money for cancer supportive care in Kamloops and to honour the memory of Laura’s son Curtis McCoy, who passed away 4 years ago of Melanoma.
"Curtis was born on February 18, 1992, with a great sense of humor and a goofy smile that stayed with him throughout his life. Curtis passed away from melanoma cancer on October 12, 2021, at the age of 29. Though his life was far too short, he truly lived it to the fullest. He loved traveling, fishing, camping, golfing, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Curtis was also hardworking and deeply compassionate. He worked on the oil rigs, was always willing to help anyone in need, loved his cat Hermine dearly, and dreamed of one day becoming a husband and father. In 2019, Curtis was diagnosed with melanoma.
The years that followed were incredibly difficult, yet he faced them with courage and grace. Knowing his time was limited, Curtis made the deeply personal decision to pursue MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying). Before his passing, he ensured his affairs were in order, shared meaningful goodbyes with loved ones, and found a loving home for Hermine.
To honor Curtis’ life and legacy, his friends and family created an annual charity golf tournament—The REAL MCCOY Golf Tournament—with all proceeds benefiting the Kamloops Cancer Supportive Care Society. Over the years, the tournament has grown, and we are proud to have raised over $20,000 in Curtis’ name. Our 5th and final tournament will take place on May 30, 2026, at Rivershore Estate & Golf Links."
